H59
Brass Rod
A general-purpose brass rod for turned parts, hardware and fittings. Match the delivery condition and dimensions to the intended machining or hot-working route.

01 / MATERIAL OVERVIEWMaterial Features
H59 is a brass grade with a nominal copper content near 59%. It is used for general mechanical hardware and machined components where its properties suit the application. For flat formed brass parts, see H62 messingplade; compare 6061-T6 aluminum round bar when considering a lighter machining material.
General Machining
Can be turned, drilled and threaded with suitable tooling and chip control.
Hot Working
A useful option for appropriate hot-forming routes; specify the delivery condition.
Mechanical Hardware
Select section and condition to meet the finished part requirements.
Material Economy
Compare total processing yield, machining time and finish requirements when selecting stock.
Surface Finishing
Polishing or plating requirements can be defined for visible or functional surfaces.
Grade Distinction
H59 is not the same as leaded free-machining brass such as HPb59-1. Do not substitute grades by name similarity.
02 / TECHNICAL DATAMaterial Reference
| Item | Reference / requirement |
|---|---|
| Copper Cu | 57.0–60.0% |
| Zinc Zn | Balance |
| Lead Pb | ≤0.50% reference limit |
| Iron Fe | ≤0.30% reference limit |
| Delivery condition | Specify with the order |
Reference values support material selection. Confirm the complete chemistry, mechanical properties and acceptance criteria in the purchase specification and batch report.
03 / CONDITION & PERFORMANCESpecify the Right Condition
Mechanical properties vary with bar size and production condition. Specify hardness or strength where they affect the part rather than relying on the H59 name alone.
| Requirement | What to confirm |
|---|---|
| Material condition | Exact grade and temper or delivery condition |
| Mechanical properties | Applicable limits for the product form and dimensions |
| Inspection | Test method and required material documentation |
04 / DIMENSIONS & SUPPLYDimensions for Your Application
| Item | Ordering guidance |
|---|---|
| Diameter / section | State nominal size and tolerance |
| Length | Specify stock length or cut pieces |
| Straightness | Define the limit required for machining |
| Surface | Specify mill, drawn or finished surface requirements |
Provide dimensions in millimeters and identify whether they refer to incoming stock or finished parts. Available sizes, quantity and lead time are confirmed in the quotation.
05 / APPLICATIONSTypical Applications
Turned Hardware
Spacers, collars and general machined fittings.
Fastener Components
Parts produced to the required dimensional and mechanical specification.
Mechanical Fittings
Small hardware and connection components.
Valve Components
Use only where the material is approved for the medium and service conditions.
Electrical Hardware
Mechanical connector parts selected for the actual electrical requirements.
Decorative Parts
Machined brass items with a defined finish and appearance.
06 / FABRICATION & FINISHPlan the Fabrication Route
| Operation | Details to define |
|---|---|
| Turning | Define finished diameter, machining allowance and required surface finish. |
| Drilling & threading | Set tolerances and thread requirements on the drawing. |
| Hot forming | Confirm stock condition and process requirements before production. |
| Finishing | Specify plating or polishing and any critical fit surfaces. |
07 / PACKING & INSPECTIONPacking, Handling & Inspection
Protect the Material
Specify package size and unit weight for your handling equipment. Agree on edge protection, separation between pieces and moisture protection appropriate to the shipment.
Store & Handle Carefully
Store dry and supported. Keep contact surfaces and finished faces free from contamination and handling damage. Preserve labels for batch identification.
Check on Receipt
- Match grade, condition and batch identification to the order.
- Check quantity, dimensions and packaging condition.
- Inspect visible surfaces and edges before fabrication.
- Review the agreed material and inspection documents.
08 / FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONSSelection FAQs
Is H59 a free-cutting leaded brass?
It should not be treated as interchangeable with a deliberately leaded free-machining grade. Confirm the required chemistry.
Can it replace H62?
Only after reviewing the drawing and processing requirements. Grade and delivery condition both matter.
Is it automatically suitable for water fittings?
No. Confirm material approval and service requirements for the finished fitting.
09 / ORDERING GUIDESend a Complete Specification
Please include: H59 messingstang; diameter or section × length; quantity; delivery condition; dimensional tolerance; surface finish; material report requirements.
Agree on the applicable rod delivery standard and chemistry requirements, including the relevant GB/T 5231 edition where specified.
Include a drawing for processed parts and identify any critical dimensions. Final availability, pricing, minimum order quantity and delivery schedule are subject to quotation.
