5052-H32
Aluminum Coil
An aluminum–magnesium coil for formed panels, enclosures and general sheet-metal fabrication. H32 provides a useful balance of moderate strength and forming capability.

01 / MATERIAL OVERVIEWMaterial Features
5052 is a non-heat-treatable aluminum alloy strengthened mainly by cold working. Coil supply supports slitting and cut-to-length processing for repeat sheet-metal production.
Forming Capability
Suitable for bending and stamping when thickness, tooling and bend severity are matched.
Corrosion Resistance
Useful in atmospheric and humid service. Review the actual exposure and contact with other metals.
Moderate Strength
H32 balances strength and ductility; verify specified limits for the coil thickness.
Fabrication Flexibility
Coil can be slit or cut into sheets subject to agreed processing requirements. If ready-cut flat stock suits your process, see 5052-H32 aluminum sheet; compare 3003-H14 aluminum sheet when reviewing alternative sheet alloys.
Welded Components
Appropriate welding processes can be used. Review distortion and local changes in properties.
Production Planning
Specify coil weight, inside diameter and winding requirements to suit the processing line.
02 / TECHNICAL DATAMaterial Reference
| Item | Reference / requirement |
|---|---|
| Magnesium Mg | 2.2–2.8% |
| Chromium Cr | 0.15–0.35% |
| Silicon Si | ≤0.25% |
| Iron Fe | ≤0.40% |
| Aluminum Al | Balance |
Reference values support material selection. Confirm the complete chemistry, mechanical properties and acceptance criteria in the purchase specification and batch report.
03 / CONDITION & PERFORMANCESpecify the Right Condition
H32 denotes strain hardening followed by stabilization to a quarter-hard condition. It is not a solution-treated and aged temper. Forming limits depend on thickness, direction and tooling.
| Requirement | What to confirm |
|---|---|
| Material condition | Exact grade and temper or delivery condition |
| Mechanical properties | Applicable limits for the product form and dimensions |
| Inspection | Test method and required material documentation |
04 / DIMENSIONS & SUPPLYDimensions for Your Application
| Item | Ordering guidance |
|---|---|
| Thickness × width | Specify nominal size and tolerances |
| Coil ID / OD | Match the payoff equipment and handling limits |
| Coil weight | State preferred and maximum unit weight |
| Edges & winding | Specify slit/mill edges, burr direction and winding orientation |
Provide dimensions in millimeters and identify whether they refer to incoming stock or finished parts. Available sizes, quantity and lead time are confirmed in the quotation.
05 / APPLICATIONSTypical Applications
Electrical Enclosures

06 / FABRICATION & FINISHPlan the Fabrication Route
| Operation | Details to define |
|---|---|
| Slitting | Specify strip width, width tolerance, burr limits and winding direction. |
| Cut to length | Agree on length tolerance, squareness and leveling requirements. |
| Bending & stamping | Confirm inside radii, rolling direction and trial forming for complex parts. |
| Welding | Use suitable preparation, heat input and support to limit distortion. |
07 / PACKING & INSPECTIONPacking, Handling & Inspection
Protect the Material
Specify package size and unit weight for your handling equipment. Agree on edge protection, separation between pieces and moisture protection appropriate to the shipment.
Store & Handle Carefully
Store dry and supported. Keep contact surfaces and finished faces free from contamination and handling damage. Preserve labels for batch identification.
Check on Receipt
- Match grade, condition and batch identification to the order.
- Check quantity, dimensions and packaging condition.
- Inspect visible surfaces and edges before fabrication.
- Review the agreed material and inspection documents.
08 / FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONSSelection FAQs
What does H32 mean?
Strain hardened and stabilized, with the final digit indicating the quarter-hard condition.
Can it be supplied as sheets?
Cut-to-length requirements can be discussed alongside slitting. Confirm dimensions and leveling in the quotation.
Is every coil suitable for deep drawing?
No. Drawing severity, temper and thickness must be considered; trial forming may be required.
09 / ORDERING GUIDESend a Complete Specification
Please include: 5052-H32 aluminum coil; thickness × width; total quantity; coil ID and maximum OD; unit weight; edge condition; surface requirements.
Agree on the applicable coil/sheet standard and dimensional requirements. A chemical-composition standard alone does not define all delivery properties.
Include a drawing for processed parts and identify any critical dimensions. Final availability, pricing, minimum order quantity and delivery schedule are subject to quotation.
